Is it safe to use topical finasteride, minoxidil, or dutasteride during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?

No. Finasteride and dutasteride are Category X teratogenic medications that have the potential to harm a male fetus if ingested or absorbed through the skin of a pregnant female. We do not advise use of topical finasteride/dutasteride while you are pregnant, breastfeeding or trying to conceive, or if you have a pregnant partner unless you can confirm the ability to avoid contact of the medication with your partner's skin and can accept the potential associated risks.
